Oxford Brookes Visit Landmark

Several members of Landmark’s Environmental Planning team have been recruited as graduates of Oxford Brookes University, so we decided that it was time to demonstrate the range of their work with the Practice to the University.  On May 1st 2007 we hosted a visit to Bristol by the 2007 class of the Oxford Brookes Masters course in Environmental Assessment and Management.

The aim of the trip was to give a practical insight into the nature of Environmental Impact Assessment, from initial project concept, through development of the design, problem solving and mitigation and the actual outcomes on the ground.  With only half a day to achieve this task, we selected a site close to our Bristol office, at The Bristol Port Company’s Avonmouth Docks.

Landmark is retained by The Port Company as environmental adviser and, in addition to various ecological and environmental assessments and landscape planning projects, was responsible for the management of the EIA of the project to install 3 large wind turbines at the docks.  The turbines are now under construction by Ecotricity, so this is an excellent example of a highly successful EIA scheme, from start to almost finish.  Monitoring of any ecological impacts of the turbines will commence later this year.

Many thanks to The Port Company for hosting the visit and good luck to the Oxford Brookes MSc class of 2007!
