Re-development of Barrow Hospital
Full planning permission was granted in January 2008 by North Somerset Council for a scheme led by GVA Grimley on behalf of Del Piero to re-develop Barrow Hospital. The redundant hospital site near Barrow Gurney is particularly environmentally sensitive; it is within the Bristol Green Belt and supports an extensive population of protected bat species including a significant roost of Lesser Horseshoe bats.
Landmark provided ecological services throughout the application process, including monitoring of bat activity, Ecological Impact Assessment and preparation and confirmation with the Council and Natural England of a comprehensive bat mitigation strategy. The consented development is for demolition, conversion and redevelopment of the site to provide a mixed-use scheme comprising employment, residential, and leisure uses.
